ANDPVA is one of the country’s leading Aboriginal arts service organization, representing over 300 of the country’s active artists. This member-driven, not-for-profit organization strives to serve Aboriginal arts through ongoing advocacy, special initiatives and resourceful programming. It also offers extensive member services such as a weekly information update, nationally delivered professional development, communications, and marketing services. ANDPVA offers community and participatory arts practices that offer an alternative to mainstream institutions and practices from an Indigenous set of values and belief systems.
For over three decades ANDPVA's Mandate has remained true to the vision that James Buller set forth.
To stimulate and promote creativity and
provide access in the arts for artists of
Aboriginal ancestry working in any medium
- by facilitating the programming of events,
by advocating for Native Art and the Native Artist, by rendering experienced and informed counsel, and by providing professional opportunities and experience - to ensure for Native art and Native artists a place of integrity within the Native and non Native community and to assist them in earning an equitable living wage.
Mandate
1. To serve our community artists by facilitating culturally grounded, consistent programming which will provide a creative, healthy and financially equitable forum for the talented expression of Aboriginal artists in all disciplines.
2. To support artists by providing information and access to exhibition and performance venues, funding opportunities, education, and travel.
3. To provide mentoring and training for people of Aboriginal ancestry in the area of arts administration, communications, networking and project management.
4. To structure and develop an active Council (Board of Directors) who can work together effectively within a culture-based management model to respond to the needs of the Aboriginal arts community.
