With an architecture background, I am a set designer and installation artist. I was born in Krakow, Poland, and grew up in the Middle East before settling in Toronto with my parents and sister in 1990. I completed my Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Toronto (2001) and MA Scenography at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK (2005). Since then, I have worked in theatre, site-specific and promenade performance, performance-installation, multidisciplinary events, museum exhibition design, television and video, as designer or artistic director. I have worked in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Poland and Kuwait.
Playing with narrative structures in space and time, my work explores inner states of being and giving form to the invisible and that which cannot be expressed in words. I enjoy collaborating with sound designers, dancers, physical theatre performers and other artists as well as working independently. In an immersive theatre of images, the cinematic spaces I strive to create fuse installation, video projection, text, sound and/or choreographed movement – trying to capture lost essence or cultural and historical memory.
With a life time of travel and displacement, and having roots in several different geographic areas, I have a special respect for cultural diversity, something I feel needs to be more celebrated in the face of "global" culture.
