Design Intern
JumbliesTheatre is a Toronto based company that makes art in everyday places, with, forand about the people and
storiesfound there. Jumblies has received short term funding from The Youth InternshipProgram (YIP), Career
Focus, whichprovides emerging cultural workers and artists with work experience that willideally lead to ongoing
employment.
Withdirection from the Artistic Director and support from Jumblies Artists/Mentors,the Design Intern will:
- Design andproduce graphic designs for promotional and outreach materials
- Design,edit and produce audio-video elements for promotional and documentary purposes
- Design andproduce media elements for gallery event installations and promotional/outreachdisplays
- ProvideJumblies projects and activities with enhanced capacity in the areas of Graphicand Digital Media Design
- Maintain asystem for organizing graphic designs and digital elements (e.g. audio & videofiles)
- Collaborate with Jumblies artists and staff in documenting activities
- Participate in the annual Arts For All Essentials course (Dec. 2010)
- Attendrelevant Jumblies seminars, training workshops and events
- Carry outother relevant duties as required
The primarylocation of work will be the Jumblies offices at the Cedar Ridge CreativeCentre in East Scarborough.
Other worksites will include Jumblies Theatre's Offshoot sites in Etobicoke and DavenportPerth, Toronto Island or
otherdesignated meeting locations.
Qualifications:
- Graduatedfrom college, university or cegep within the last 4 years, in Graphic Design,Visual Art, Digital Media
Design or arelated field
- Priorexperience in an arts-producing setting
- Demonstrated quality of work (as demonstrated by a port folio or work samples)
- Knowledgeand understanding of community arts
- Ability towork both independently and collaboratively, and to seek timely and appropriatedirection
- Computerskills: Mac OS10, Office, Adobe Suite, Final Cut Pro, HTML/Dreamweaver, otherdigital/graphic/web
applications
- Strongorganizational, social and communication skills
- Experienceworking in culturally diverse settings
Please notethat the intern will have to be deemed eligible by Human Resources Skills andDevelopment Canada
(HRSDC) andmust be unemployed or under-employed; between 15 and 30 years of age(inclusive); a Canadian
citizen,permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada; maynot be in receipt of EI
benefitsimmediately before or during the internship; may not participate as part ofco-op, certificate or credit
programswith any university, college or training Institution; and may not haveparticipated in any of the Youth
EmploymentStrategy Work Experience Programs targeted at post-secondary graduates.
Hours ofWork: 30 hours per week
Rate of Pay:$18/hour
